One Week! The countdown to your family photo session

One week to go! Here is a checklist to get your family photo ready!

  • OUTFITS ARE SET - try ‘em on again. Iron wrinkles, check skirt length. If you have any doubts, email or text example photos to the studio.

  • LOCATION has been GPS’ed. You know exactly how long it should take you to get there. If you are heading to the studio, here are detailed directions to the parking lot and studio lobby. Arrive early. The studio has an excellent coffee shop and brewery in the building, you should have received ideas for things to do if you arrive early at a different photo spot.

  • Talk gently with your kiddos about the photo session. No threats, no bribery (that comes later). It’s all about making this a fun family event. Don’t practice smiles or ‘CHEESE’. Instead, sing songs, play games like Eye Spy or Patty Cake. Make silly noises. These activities will generate the real authentic smiles that we want for photos.

  • If your session is outdoor, we will be in close contact about the weather. We will reschedule/cancel or move to the studio if the temps are forecasted to be below 40 or above 90 degrees or a 60%+ chance of rain 24 hours prior to the session.

  • Bring along:

    • personal items - make up touch ups, hairbrush, lipstick, etc.

    • water bottles for everyone

    • snacks for the kiddos - I suggest cut-up grapes, fruit snacks, cheerios and NO CHOCOLATE OR GOLDFISH. I will have a lollipop for older kiddos after the session. Do not tell the kiddos about treats or snacks, we will use it later to capture some smiles!

    • walkable shoes, we can always change into those wedges when we get to where we are going

    • change of clothes, in case you want to change out of photo clothes

  • Plan a fun day! Take some time before or after the session to spend some quality time together. If the photo session is at the studio, I recommend dining in the area at one of these very family friendly restaurants:

    • Orkenoy - brewery & restaurant in the building

    • Middlebrow - brewery & restaurant just about a mile away and some of the best pizza in the city. Reservations are recommended

    • Park and Field - restaurant with a great patio and super kiddo friendly. Reservations are recommended

  • Things to do in the area:

  • Let’s keep in touch! Communication is key to a successful photo shoot. Keep me informed about any illnesses, bumps or bruises, concerns about outfits, weather, additions to the family line-up, all of it! Email is great for general questions (jennifer@logansquarephoto.com) phone/text is great for emergencies (312-600-4810)
