Tintype portraits are made using a 19th-century photographic process that creates a one-of-a-kind image on metal, made entirely by hand. Each plate is coated, exposed, and developed individually during your session — there are no digital files and no reproductions. The final photograph is a physical object that exists only once.
Tintype sessions are slow, intentional, and collaborative. You’ll be photographed using a large-format camera, and you’ll be able to watch the image appear as the plate is developed moments after it’s exposed. Small variations, marks, and imperfections are part of the process and what give each tintype its character.
Sessions are scheduled in one-hour time slots, allowing time for setup, multiple exposures if needed, and finishing the plate.
Session pricing:
4×5 tintype — $100
8×10 tintype — $250
Each session includes the creation of one finished tintype plate in the size you choose. Additional plates may be available during your session, depending on time and materials.
Tintype portraits are ideal for individuals, couples, and small groups looking for a timeless, tactile photograph — something made by hand, meant to be held, displayed, and kept for generations.
